NFL Weekly Preview Week 5: Key Injuries, Player Statistical Projections & Projected Upsets

We are now heading into week five in the National Football League. What is a big story at the moment is the fact there are only eight teams above .500 (three in the AFC and five in the NFC). Here are some key injuries, player statistical projections and projected upsets in week five.

Key Injuries

The position that got beat up this past weekend the most was running back. The most significant injury was Javonte Williams of the Denver Broncos, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament, lateral cruciate ligament, and posterior lateral corner. It should be no surprise now that Williams is out for the season. Denver will now rely on Melvin Gordon, Mike Boone and Latavius Murray. The signing of Murray came on Tuesday. It was actually one of two injuries for the Broncos in their 32-23 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, as they also lost linebacker Randy Gregory to a knee injury.

The other two running back injuries are not as serious to the one of Williams. Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts will not play Thursday night against the Broncos because of an ankle injury, and Cordarrelle Patterson of the Atlanta Falcons will miss the next month with a knee injury.

Player Statistical Projections

The top projected quarterback this week is once again Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. He is expected to get 306 passing yards, 39 rushing yards and three touchdowns this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team that will be starting Kenny Pickett, who will make his NFL debut as a starter.

The top projected wide receiver this week is Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, the reigning Super Bowl MVP. Against the Dallas Cowboys this week, he is projected to get nine catches for 108 yards and one touchdown. Finally, the top projected running back is Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, who is projected to get 70 rushing yards and 33 receiving yards, and a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers in London. The Giants/Packers game is the only game in week five where both teams are above .500, as they are both 3-1.

Projected Upsets

After projecting a few upsets over the first few weeks (and teams not coming through), I am playing it completely safe this week and predicting all favourites.
