Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield are both pushing to return in NFL Week 7, while the Rams have lost Davante Adams to injured reserve and the 49ers are sweating on Mike Evans’ Achilles.
Week 7 starts with the New England Patriots at the Chicago Bears on Thursday night in the US (11:15am AEDT Friday). The first full practice reports for the Sunday games arrive on Wednesday (US time), but coaches’ updates have already given a good idea of where the biggest names stand.
Lamar Jackson, Ravens (ankle)
Jackson has missed the past two games with the ankle injury he suffered in Week 4, with Tyler Huntley starting in his place. Ravens coach Jesse Minter said on Monday (US time) that his quarterback had made progress, but stopped short of saying he would play against Cincinnati.
“I’d still put it in kind of the day-to-day thing,” Minter said. “We’ll know a lot more on Wednesday, I would say.”
Baltimore (4-2) hosts the Bengals (3-2) in a key AFC North clash, after a win over Atlanta and a 13-10 loss to Cleveland without Jackson.

Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers (thumb)
Mayfield has missed three games since dislocating the thumb on his throwing hand against Minnesota in Week 3, and was set to practice on Wednesday for the first time since the injury, according to the Buccaneers. He needs to show he can grip the ball firmly and throw with his usual velocity. If he can’t, rookie Jalon Daniels will make a fourth straight start against Carolina.
“He’s supposed to practice Wednesday,” coach Todd Bowles said. “We’re going to take a good look at him there and then we’ll kind of evaluate him during the week and see how he does.”

Davante Adams, Rams (hamstring)
The Rams placed Adams on injured reserve on Tuesday (US time). The club said he is slated to miss six to 10 weeks with a ruptured semitendinosus, the injury he suffered in the loss to Arizona. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Adams is expected to have a procedure to clean out the hamstring tendon, with the hope he can return around the Rams’ Week 11 bye or a little after. The 33-year-old had 30 catches for 480 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Mike Evans, 49ers (Achilles)
Evans left Monday night’s 23-17 win over Washington at half-time after aggravating his Achilles tendinitis, but Kyle Shanahan said it was not expected to be a long-term problem. “Flared up tonight, I hope he recovers throughout the week, but you don’t think it’s a long-term thing,” Shanahan said. San Francisco plays Atlanta on Sunday before its Week 8 bye.
Other names to watch
A.J. Brown (Patriots, ankle) was limited on New England’s practice reports on Monday and Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s game in Chicago, while Bears running back Kyle Monangai (thumb, toe) was listed as not taking part in either of Chicago’s walkthroughs, where participation is estimated.
In better news for Houston, coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed Tank Dell will play against the New York Giants, his first game since a severe knee injury in December 2024. “We’re excited, it’s time for him to be back,” Ryans said.
Philadelphia running back Saquon Barkley has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury ahead of the Eagles’ Monday night game against Dallas.
Already ruled out for the season are Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who has blood clots in his lungs, and Washington receiver Terry McLaurin, who tore his patellar tendon against the 49ers. We will update this report as Wednesday’s practice reports land.
