Stephen Curry becomes third player to reach 2500 three-pointers

When it is all said and done, Stephen Curry of Akron, Ohio, will be considered one of the greatest shooters from long range in the NBA. On Sunday, Curry became only the third player ever to record 2500 career three-pointers according to Alex Didion of NBC Sports. He joins a list that includes only Reggie Miller and Ray Allen.
Curry made NBA history in a 129-128 Warriors win over the Chicago Bulls for their first win of the 2020-21 NBA regular season. At the time, Curry’s notable three-pointer tied the game at 22 points apiece, with Eric Paschall picking up the assist. It came with exactly one minute left in the first quarter. Interestingly, the Warriors also won the game on a three-point shot from 26-feet by Damion Lee, with 2.3 seconds left. At the time of Lee’s shot, the Warriors were down 128-126.
The three-point shot by Curry, also made him the fastest player of the three to make 2500 three-point shots. He accomplished the mark in 702 games. Allen did it in 1021 games, and Miller did it in 1288 games according to nba.com. Allen had 2973 career three-pointers in 1300 games with the Milwaukee Bucks, Seattle Supersonics, Boston Celtics, and Miami Heat from 1996 to 2014. Miller had 2560 career three-pointers in 1389 games with the Indiana Pacers from 1987 to 2005.
Like Miller, all of Curry’s three-pointers have come with one team, the Golden State Warriors. The six-time all-star point guard now has 2509 made three-point shots. He finished Sunday’s game with five three-pointers, and then had five more three-pointers in Tuesday’s 116-106 Warriors win over the Detroit Pistons. With the wins over Chicago and Detroit, the Warriors have returned to the .500 mark at two wins and two losses.
It should also be noted that Curry would probably have had closer to 2800 three-points shots made by now. However, he broke his hand at the beginning of the 2019-20 season, and missed most of the season.
