Golden State Warriors dominate the 2022 ESPY Awards

The 2022 ESPY Awards took place on Wednesday night from Los Angeles, California, and the evening was dominated by the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors won best team, Warriors point guard Stephen Curry won best record-breaking performance and best NBA Player Award, while Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson received the best comeback athlete award.
Curry, who was hosting the ESPYs, was recognized for breaking the NBA record for most three-pointers of all-time with 2974 in a 105-96 Warriors win over the New York Knicks on December 14. He finished the regular season with 3117 career three-pointers, including 285 three-pointers, which led all players in the NBA in the 2021-22 regular season.
Curry averaged 25.5 points per game, 6.3 assists per game, and 5.2 rebounds per game. He also had a field goal percentage of .437, three-point percentage of .380, and a free throw percentage of .923. Curry has been an exceptional free throw shooter over the years. Four times he led the NBA in free-throw shooting and has a career percentage of .908.
Thompson returned to the NBA this season after not playing the entire 2019-20 season due to a knee injury and the entire 2020-21 season due to an achilles injury. In 2021-22, Thompson averaged 20.4 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists per game, a .429 field goal percentage, a .385 three point percentage, and a .902 free throw percentage.
The Warriors were recognized as a team for winning the 2022 NBA Finals. The Warriors beat the Boston Celtics four game to two in the finals after series wins over the Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks. The Warriors won 16 of 22 playoff games.
