Damian Lillard becomes sixth player in NBA history to have multiple 60 point games in his career
January 23, 2020
Portland Trailblazers point guard Damian Lillard of Oakland, California made NBA history on Monday when he became only the sixth player in NBA history to record 60 point games twice in a NBA career. Lillard set a Trailblazers franchise record for points in a game with 61 as Portland defeated the Golden State Warriors 129-124 at the Moda Center in Portland.
Lillard finished the night with a double double as he also had 10 defensive rebounds. He also had seven assists and one steal. According to ESPN, Lillard became the first player ever to have 60 points and 10 three-pointers in a game. He went 11 of 20 from beyond the arc.
The other five players to register 60 points in a game more than once are Wilt Chamberlain (who did this a remarkable 32 times), Kobe Bryant (six times), James Harden and Michael Jordan (four times) and Elgin Baylor (thrice).
At 6’2″, Lillard is also the shortest player to have multiple 60 point games. He also now has seven 50 point games with Portland. That is more than all the other Trailblazers in franchise history combined. Lillard also set the most points scored on Martin Luther King Day.
Lillard’s other 60 point performance was also this season. However that came in a 119-115 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on November 8.
The Trailblazers currently have a record of 19 wins and 26 losses this season. Even though they are seven games below the .500 mark, they are still in striking distance of a playoff spot in the Western Conference. They are two games back of the eighth place Memphis Grizzlies.
