Celtics forced to postpone games due to coronavirus
January 13, 2021
The Boston Celtics are in the process of having players miss games because they are following coronavirus protocols, and are now being forced to postpone games according to Tim Bontemps of ESPN. So far the Celtics have been forced to postpone three of their games because either they or their opponent could not field a minimum of eight players.
This past Sunday, the Celtics were to face the Miami Heat, but the Heat was unable to field a team. Then on Tuesday, the Celtics were to face the Chicago Bulls, but this time it was the Celtics that could not field the minimum amount. The disease is forcing them to postpone their game against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday in Boston too.
It should be noted at this time the reports do not state there is a coronavirus outbreak among the Celtics. Seven Celtics including Tristan Thompson, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown, are being forced to miss games because they are following the NBA health and safety protocols related to coronavirus.
In addition to the three games the Celtics are needing to reschedule, the New Orleans Pelicans are needing to change the date of their game against the Dallas Mavericks because there are four positive cases of coronavirus among the Mavericks according to Callie Caplan of The Dallas Morning News.
One other game so far this season has been postponed because of the pandemic. On December 23, the game between the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder was postponed. Remember, it was the Thunder that was the opponent of the Utah Jazz back in March when the game was postponed (eventually cancelled) due to a positive coronavirus test of Jazz center Rudy Gobert.
