Celtics deliver statement win over Suns
December 9, 2022

So far this season, the Boston Celtics have been the best team in the NBA. They have a record of 21 wins and five losses, and on Wednesday in the Arizona desert, they came up with their most impressive win of the season. They not only beat the Phoenix Suns, but spanked them, as they won 125-98.
Entering the game, the Suns were the best team in the Western Conference. Now they are half a game back of the red hot New Orleans Pelicans, with Zion Williamson leading the way. The Pelicans are now winners of five straight games, and not only lead the Suns by half a game in the Western Conference, but the Memphis Grizzlies too.
Boston dominated the first half. They outscored Phoenix 69-42 in the first half, and maintained their 27-point advantage in the last 24 minutes. Forward Jayson Tatum of St. Louis, Missouri and swingman Jaylen Brown of Marietta, Georgia co-led the Celtics with 25 points each. Guard Malcolm Brogdon of Atlanta, Georgia had 16 points, power forward Grant Williams of Houston, Texas had 14 points, and center Luke Kornet of Lexington, Kentucky had 12 points.

It was Kornet’s 12 points that deserves some recognition. Don’t forget the fact he is only averaging 5.4 points in his 169 NBA game career, and he actually had three more points than first-year Celtics player, Blake Griffin, who had only nine points. Griffin was the only Celtics starter that did not reach double digits in points.
It was the third time this season that the Celtics have won a game by 25 points or more. On November 16, the Celtics clobbered the Atlanta Hawks 126-101. Then on November 28, the Celtics had no problem in putting a beatdown on the Charlotte Hornets in a 140-105 win. The Celtics are currently leading the Milwaukee Bucks by two games in the East.
One may wonder why the Suns lost by 27 points. Well for one, they need more production from star point guard Chris Paul, who had only four points. One needs to wonder if the off-court relationship rumours between Paul and American socialite Kim Kardashian is impacting Paul’s play on the court from a mental standpoint.
