Warriors vs Lakers 1:00pm AEST
I couldn’t be further apart on my feelings about these two teams coming into the season so look for me to be fading the Lakers and backing the Warriors over the first few weeks. Lakers have a clear talent edge here, but they just have so many question marks across the board. I am quite obviously big on analytics, so it shouldn’t be a surprise when I say I’m not Westbrook’s biggest fan. It has been clear since the Lakers traded for him that the fit with Lebron isn’t great, but AD moving down to the 5 alleviates a lot of the potential issues. It looked like this was going to be the plan but unfortunately now Ariza and THT (who both would’ve got minutes at the 3 alongside Lebron at the 4 and AD at the 5) are hurt, it severely impacts their flexibility and it’s looking more like AD will be starting at the 4 now. On the flip-side, the Warriors have a clear identity and were playing some straight up awesome basketball in the pre-season en route to a 5-0 record and +9.9 net rating. Jordan Poole has emerged into a serious threat as he was 2nd in league in pre-season points per minute (only behind Steph). Otto Porter has had a rough few seasons with injuries and just being terribly out of shape, but he looked awesome going 16-29 from 3 through the pre-season. I am more than happy to take the free points with the team full of confidence playing great basketball.
