Mike Malott knocked out Joaquin Buckley with a knee in the second round to close UFC Edmonton in spectacular fashion in front of a home-country crowd at Rogers Place.

The Canadian welterweight finished Buckley at 2:32 of round two on Saturday night in Edmonton (Sunday afternoon AEDT), according to the official UFC results.

The opening round was tense and low on output, with both men landing only a handful of shots. Midway through the second, Buckley dipped in to throw and Malott answered with a kick, his knee catching Buckley flush on the chin and ending the fight on the spot.

Five straight for Malott

The win was Malott’s fifth in a row, all of them in Canada, and UFC.com’s E. Spencer Kyte wrote that it should lift him into the welterweight top 10 when the rankings update next week.
