Memphis Grizzlies set NBA record for most dominant regular season victory ever

The Memphis Grizzlies set a NBA record on Thursday. In a 152-79 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, they delivered the largest margin of victory of 73 points in a regular season game in NBA history.

The Grizzlies broke the record of 68 points. On December 17, 1991, the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Miami Heat 148-80.

In the Grizzlies win, they outscored the Thunder 31-16 in the first quarter, 41-20 in the second quarter, 41-26 in the third quarter, and 39-17 in the fourth quarter. The Grizzlies also set a franchise record for most points in a game. Their previous record was 144 points in a 144-135 win over the Golden State Warriors on January 3, 2007.

What made Memphis’s win over Oklahoma City so impressive was the balanced scoring. A total of nine Grizzlies players reached double digits in points. Power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. of Plainfield, New Jersey led Memphis with 27 points. Guard De’Anthony Melton of North Hollywood, California had 19 points off the bench. Santi Aldama of Las Palmas, Spain had a double-double not in a starting role as he had 18 points and 10 rebounds. John Konchar of Chicago, Illinois had 17 points.

In another remarkable statistic, the Grizzlies’ bench outscored the entire Thunder team 93-79. It is the first time ever a team’s bench outscored the entire opponent by double digits according to ESPN. Memphis also had 152 points without their star player, Ja Morant, who has a knee injury. Morant has 24.1 points this season to lead Memphis.

Four Grizzlies players had 11 points each. They were Canadians Dillon Brooks of Mississauga, Ontario as well as Brandon Clarke of Memphis, British Columbia, along with Americans Jarrett Culver of Dallas, Texas, and power forward Xavier Tillman of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Meanwhile, starting point guard Tyus Jones of Burnsville, Minnesota had 10 points.

With the win, the Grizzlies improved to a record of 12 wins and 10 losses, and the Thunder dropped to a record of six wins and 16 losses.
