According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN on Wednesday, the Dallas Mavericks have signed guard Isaiah Thomas to a 10-day contract. This is the second time this month Thomas has signed a 10-day contract. On December 17, Thomas signed a 10-day deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, before being released on Tuesday.
In four games with the Lakers, Thomas was able to score 37 points, but it was clear that defense was an issue. He was a -24 while on the court, including a terrible -20 in a 138-110 spanking at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs on December 23. As a result of the poor performance where he scored only two points in 21 minutes of action, Thomas was benched on Christmas Day, in a 122-115 Lakers loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
The Mavericks meanwhile were in need of Thomas due to an issue with coronavirus on their team. According to McMahon, Boban Marjanovic and Brandon Knight have both tested positive for the disease, while according to Doyle Rader of Forbes, the Mavericks star player Luka Doncic, has also tested positive for coronavirus.
Thomas has been very busy throughout his NBA career, and has not been in a single place for long. The Mavericks are the ninth team Thomas has played for following time with the Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards, and New Orleans Pelicans.
Thomas was an All-Star with the Celtics in back-to-back seasons in 2015-16, and 2016-17. In 2015-16, Thomas averaged 22.2 points per game, and in 2016-17, he averaged 28.9 points per game. The Mavericks meanwhile are currently eighth in the Western Conference at 16 wins and 18 losses.
