Lorenzo Musetti of Carrara, Italy, the world number 15, has withdrawn from Wimbledon because of a thigh injury according to ESPN on Wednesday. Musetti is the second high profile male tennis player to miss Wimbledon. World number two Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, the 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon champion, is missing Wimbledon because of a wrist injury. On the women’s side, Canadian Victoria Mboko, and world number nine, is missing Wimbledon because of a medial collateral ligament injury she suffered at Queen’s.
Musetti injured his thigh during the Italian Open. He reached the fourth round before being beaten by Casper Ruud of Norway in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Musetti also missed the French Open. He had competed in 20 consecutive majors prior to missing Roland Garros.
Over the last three years, Musetti has reached two grand slam semifinals. He reached the final four of Wimbledon in 2024, before losing to Novak Djokovic of Serbia, 6-4, 7-6, 6-4. Musetti then reached the final four of the 2025 French Open, before losing to Alacaraz, 4-6, 7-6, 6-0, 2-0. Musetti was forced to withdraw with an upper leg injury.
Musetti has reached one ATP final on grass in his career. He reached the final of Queen’s in 2024, before losing to Tommy Paul of the United States, 6-1, 7-6.
Ironically, it is another Italian who is replacing Musetti in the Wimbledon draw. It just so happens to be 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini. At the 2026 French Open, Berrettini reached the quarterfinals before losing to fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi.
