LeBron James becomes the NBA’s all-time leading scorer
February 8, 2023

In an historic Tuesday in the National Basketball Association, Los Angeles Lakers small forward LeBron James of Akron, Ohio became the NBA All-Time leading scorer. James now has 38390 after his 38-point performance as the Lakers lost 133-130 to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Of James’s 38390 points, 23119 points have been with the Cleveland Cavaliers, 7919 points have been with the Miami Heat, and now 7352 points with the Lakers.
James passed another Lakers legend as the NBA all-time leading scorer. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of New York, New York is second all-time with 38387 points. On Tuesday, James made 13 of 20 field goals, four of six three-point shots, and eight of 10 free throws. He had seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and and was a +8 in 34 minutes. It should be noted that James moved into fourth place in the NBA all-time in assists earlier this month.Â

What we also saw on Tuesday was the coming of age of the Oklahoma City Thunder. They are the youngest team in the NBA and they could have been overwhelmed by the focus of James’s march for history. But they showed exceptional commitment, poise and dedication on the court and were not fazed by the historical component of the contest. Six Thunder players had double-digits in scoring. Point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario led OKC with 30 points.
What was also impressive with this Thunder win is that it came on the second game of a back-to-back. They got their butts kicked 141-114 on Monday by Golden State, but were able to regroup and record a much needed W in the NBA standings. With the win, the Thunder improve to a record of 26 wins and 28 losses. The Lakers drop to a record of 25 wins and 30 losses.
