Lay Of The Day: 5 Horses We Think You Should Lay At Kembla & Ballarat 19/11
November 19, 2022
Our analyst has put together a list of five horses he thinks you should ‘lay’ at Kembla & Ballarat today.
*Note:
In horse racing, when you lay a horse, you win if any other horse in the race comes first. If the horse you bet against wins then you lose and have to pay the backer his winnings.
BALLARAT RACE 8 –Â Â BANKERS CHOICE
- Trainer: M Moroney
- Jockey: J Allen
- Barrier: 1
- Price: $4.40 @ Betfair
Top effort when close-up last start in the VRC Champions Stakes but that was an odd race run at a slow tempo. He doesn’t begin well which is not a great pattern for a Ballarat race. He’s also drawn barrier one so is likely to be awkwardly placed.
BALLARAT RACE 10 – DETANATOR JACK
- Trainer: Maher & Eustace
- Jockey: J Allen
- Barrier: 5
- Price: $2.88 @ Betfair
Perfectly ridden when he resumed from a spell with a first-up win at Flemington over 1400 metres. He goes up 6.5kgs and is meeting horses who were close-up behind him a bit worse. Also he might be looking for more ground.

KEMBLA RACE 7 – MALKOVICH
- Trainer: B Baker
- Jockey: J Parr
- Barrier: 3
- Price: $4.90 @ Betfair
Flying sprinter whose wins are well spaced though. He’s got to contend with a big weight and some extremely talented sprinters such as Bruckner, Athelric and Dragonstone.
KEMBLA RACE 8 – RIODINI
- Trainer: Waterhouse & Bott
- Jockey: T Clark
- Barrier: 8
- Price: $7.00 @ Betfair
He’s been heavily backed to win The Gong but he’s got to be a risk. He hasn’t won for over three years and also he hasn’t won over the distance.
