Top five storylines from Week 16 of the National Football League regular season
December 30, 2020
With one week left in the 2020 National Football League regular season, there will be a lot of interesting matchups. What we do know is that the Kansas City Chiefs have clinched the no. 1 seed in the AFC, the Buffalo Bills have won the AFC East, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won the AFC North, the Green Bay Packers have won the NFC North, the New Orleans Saints have won the NFC South, and the Seattle Seahawks have won the NFC West. Here are five fascinating storylines from Week 16.
5) Washington releases quarterback Dwayne Haskins. This past season Haskins did not follow coronavirus protocols not just once, but twice. Then on Sunday, he struggled mightily on the football field as he only completed 14 of 28 passes for 154 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions in a 20-13 loss to the Carolina Panthers. As a result, he was released by Washington on Monday. Washington’s chances of making the playoffs seem dim with Taylor Heinicke as their probable starter on Sunday night in Philadelphia.
4) Tampa Bay Buccaneers set a franchise record for total yards in one game. The Buccaneers are in the playoffs for the first time since 2007 following a 47-7 hammering over the Detroit Lions. In the process, Tampa Bay set a franchise record for most total yards in a game with 588. Tom Brady had 348 passing yards, and Mike Evans had 181 receiving yards.
3) Josh Allen sets Bills record for most touchdown passes in a season. On Monday night in primetime, Josh Allen entered the Bills record books. With his an eight-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs, Allen broke Jim Kelly’s record for most touchdown passes in a season by a Bills quarterback with 34. The Bills defeated the New England Patriots 38-9.
2) Travis Kelce sets NFL record for most receiving yards in a season for a tight end. In the Kansas City Chiefs’ 17-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Travis Kelce had seven catches for 98 yards and one touchdown. In the process, he now has 1416 receiving yards in 2020, a new single season record for a tight end. George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers had the old record of 1377 yards, which was set in 2018.

1)Alvin Kamara ties NFL record for most rushing touchdowns in a single game. In the New Orleans Saints’ 52-33 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day, Saints running back Alvin Kamara tied the NFL record for most rushing touchdowns in a game with six. He tied the record previously set by Ernie Nevers of the Chicago Cardinals in 1929.
