Top five NBA shooting guards in 2020-21
December 18, 2020

With the NBA beginning its season on December 22, it is time to continue our five-part series of the top five players at each position. Today, we will look at shooting guards.
5) Kawhi Leonard–Los Angeles Clippers—Although primarily a small forward, in many fantasy basketball pools, Kawhi Leonard is also classified as a shooting guard. In 2019-20, Leonard, a four-time all-star, averaged career-highs in points per game (27.1), assists per game (4.9), and free throw percentage (.886). He also had a field goal percentage of .470, a three-point percentage of .378, and 7.1 rebounds per game.
4) Donovan Mitchell–Utah Jazz–In Utah, Jazz fans will be hoping that the coronavirus rift between Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert last season comes to an end, so the team can have a productive 2020-21. Last season Mitchell averaged career highs in points per game (24), assists per game (4.3), rebounds per game (4.4), field goal percentage (.449), three-point percentage (.366), and free throw percentage (.863). Mitchell was also an all-star for the first time.
3) Bradley Beal–Washington Wizards–There is no doubt that Bradley Beal had a productive 2019-20 season, and could be even better in 2020-21 with Russell Westbrook giving him the ball. In 2019-20, Beal averaged a career-high in points per game (30.5), assists per game (6.1), rebounds per game (4.2), and free throw percentage (.842). He also had a field goal percentage of .455, and a three-point percentage of .353.
2) Devin Booker–Phoenix Suns–Just like Bradley Beal, Devin Booker has the potential to see a significant rise in performance this season with a new point guard (Chris Paul) coming to town. In 2019-20, Booker was an all-star for the first time, as he averaged 26.6 points per game, 6.5 assists per game, 4.2 rebounds per game, a field goal percentage of .489, a three-point percentage of .354, and an excellent free-throw percentage of .919.

1)James Harden–Houston Rockets—In 2019-20, James Harden returned to shooting guard as his primary position, after spending considerable time at point guard in two of the previous three seasons. Now he will have John Wall passing the basketball to him regularly IF he decides to stay with the Rockets. Also ranked number one among point guards, Harden led the NBA in points per game (34.3), and had 7.5 assists per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, a field goal percentage of .444, a three-point percentage of .355, and a free throw percentage of .865.
