Starters named for the controversial 2021 NBA All-Star Game
February 20, 2021
The starters have been named for the controversial 2021 NBA All-Star Game on March 7 from Atlanta, Georgia. Critics are questioning the importance of a NBA All-Star Game this season, and if it should be considered essential to play. There have been 980,411 cases of coronavirus in the state of Georgia, and 16,610 deaths. There are also 51,578 active cases in the Peach State. The only states with more coronavirus cases are California, New York, Florida, and Arizona.
It is also not necessary to play an All-Star Game. It is normally a fan-friendly exhibition event, and even though the game will be raising money for charity, it is simply not important to have a game this season.
There are two captains in the game. The Eastern Conference captain is Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets, and the Western Conference captain is LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers. This is Durant’s 11th All-Star Game. He was previously the NBA All-Star Game most valuable player in 2012 while representing the Oklahoma City Thunder, and in 2019, while representing the Golden State Warriors. This will be the first time Durant will be representing an Eastern Conference-based team in the All-Star Game.

James will be playing in his 17th NBA All-Star Game. While with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he was the game’s MVP in 2006, 2008, and 2018. At the 2020 NBA All-Star Game, Team LeBron beat Team Giannis 157-155.
In addition to Durant, the starters for the Eastern Conference are guards Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards and Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets, forward Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, and center Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers. Meanwhile, the other four Western Conference starters are guards Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, center Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, and forward Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers.
