Nikola Jokic heating up for the Denver Nuggets

Denver Nuggets star center Nikola Jokic of Sombor, Serbia has been red hot as of late. On Sunday, Jokic had one of the best games of his National Basketball Association career.

In 37 minutes and 20 seconds of action, Jokic was a beast. He tied a career-high with 47 points as the Nuggets defeated the Utah Jazz 128-117 at Ball Arena in Denver. Jokic made 17 of his 26 field goal attempts, and had a double double, as he also recorded 12 rebounds. He also made all four of his three-point attempts, made nine of 10 free throws, five assists, two steals, one blocked shot, and was an impressive +14.

Jokic also set a career-high for the most points in a single quarter with 22. The 43 points the Nuggets scored in the first quarter were the most points they have scored in a single quarter all season. Denver also had 79 points in the first half, the most points they have scored in a single half all season.

What made Jokic’s performance on Sunday so impressive was the fact he scored 47 points against a Jazz team that was red hot. Utah entered the game with a record of 15 wins and four losses, the best in the NBA, but did not have the power to stop Jokic whatsoever.

In addition to beating the best team in basketball this past week, Jokic was the Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday. He averaged 30.8 points per game and 10.8 rebounds in four games last week. Jokic has now had a double double in every Nuggets game this season. Even the four games that Jokic has not reached double figures in rebounds, he has reached double figures in those games in assists.

On the season, Jokic is averaging career-highs in points per game (26.8), rebounds per game (11.8), assists per game (8.6), and steals per game (1.8). He also has a field goal percentage of .528. three-point percentage of .384, and free throw percentage of .836.

In 2020-21, Denver has a record of 12 wins and eight losses. They are currently fifth in the West.
