LeBron James becomes first player to win NBA Finals MVP with three teams

The Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA Finals on Sunday, as they defeated the Miami Heat 106-93 in game six of the series from Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. After a bit of a sluggish performance by Los Angeles in game five on Friday, there was absolutely no doubt who the better team was throughout the 48 minutes of action on Sunday.
The Lakers destroyed the Heat in the first half, outscoring Miami 64-36 over the first 24 minutes. Yes, the Heat outscored the Lakers 57-42 in the second half, but coming back from a 28-point deficit against a powerful Lakers team led by LeBron James, is simply inconceivable.
Speaking of James, the 16-time all-star was simply miraculous on Sunday. He recorded a triple double (28 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists) in the 13-point Lakers win. James led the Lakers in points and assists, and was one rebound back of Anthony Davis in the rebound category.
In the process, James made NBA Finals history. According to ESPN, he became the first player ever to win the NBA Finals most valuable player award with three different teams. James previously won the award with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013, and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. All four times James has won the NBA Finals, he has been named NBA Finals MVP.
James’s four NBA Finals MVP awards are now tied for the most ever. He is tied with Michael Jordan, who won the award four times with the Chicago Bulls. James becomes the fourth player in NBA history to win the award at age 35 or older. He joins a list that includes Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Wilt Chamberlain.
