Five NBA father-son duos who have been head coaches

On Wednesday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Stephen Silas of Boston, Massachusetts will become the next head coach of the Houston Rockets. The hiring was all but confirmed by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who tweeted “CONGRATS COACH Silas !” Does the last name Silas ring a bell? It should because Stephen Silas is the son of Paul Silas. Let us take a look at five fathers and sons who have been NBA head coaches.
5) Bill/Eric Musselman–Bill Musselman coached the Cavaliers for two seasons from 1980 to 1982, and the Minnesota Timberwolves for two seasons from 1989 to 1991. He had a record of 85 wins and 210 losses. Eric Musselman coached the Golden State Warriors from 2002 to 2004, and then the Sacramento Kings from 2006 to 2007. He had a record of 108 wins and 138 losses.
4) Bernie/J.B. Bickerstaff–Bernie Bickerstaff coached the Seattle Supersonics, Denver Nuggets, Washington Bullets/Wizards, Charlotte Bobcats, and Los Angeles Lakers. In 15 NBA seasons, he had a record of 419 wins and 518 losses. J.B. Bickerstaff has coached the Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, and Cleveland Cavaliers for four years. The current Cavaliers bench boss has a record of 90 wins and 137 losses.
3) Brendan/Mike Malone–Brendan Malone coached the Toronto Raptors for one season in 1995-96, and the Cavaliers for one season in 2004-05. He had a record of 29 wins and 71 losses. His son Mike has got on to be much more successful as a head coach. The current head coach of the Denver Nuggets who also spent two seasons as the head coach of the Kings, has a record of 258 wins and 249 losses. This past season the Nuggets reached the Western Conference Finals before losing to the Lakers.
2) Flip/Ryan Saunders–Flip Saunders coached 1246 games with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and Washington Wizards, and posted a record of 654 wins and 592 losses. Ryan Saunders is the current head coach of the Timberwolves. In the last two seasons, he has had a record of 36 wins and 70 losses.

1) Paul/Stephen Silas–Paul Silas coached the San Diego Clippers, Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Charlotte Bobcats. In 875 games, he had a record of 387 wins and 488 losses. This will be Stephen Silas’s first head coaching job. From 1999 to 2000, he has worked as either an assistant coach or a scout with the Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets, Cavaliers, Wizards, Warriors, Bobcats, and Mavericks.
