The New York Knicks showcased their skills in prime time on Sunday in front of a national audience on the relatively new NBA Sunday Night Basketball on NBC. What we saw on this particular night was a fantastic comeback by the Knickerbockers that have got the sports world buzzing.
The Knicks’s opponent on Sunday was the Golden State Warriors. When the Warriors had a 46-25 lead two minutes and 30 seconds into the second quarter, one would be of the assumption that Golden State would have been in complete control. Not so fast. Over the final 33 minutes and 30 seconds, the Knicks marched all the way back by outscoring the Warriors 85-61 en route to a 110-107 victory. The 21 point comeback was the 10th largest comeback in the NBA this season.
The Knicks were led by point guard Jalen Brunson of New Brunswick, New Jersey, who had 30 points. Other Knicks players with double digits in points were center Karl-Anthony Towns of Edison, New Jersey (17 points), power forward OG Anunoby of London, England (14 points), shooting guard Jordan Clarkson of Tampa, Florida (14 points off the bench), and shooting guard Landry Shamet of Kansas City, Missouri (10 points off the bench).
Three Knicks players also reached double digits in rebounds. Small forward Josh Hart of Silver Spring, Maryland and Towns had 12 boards each, while center Mitchell Robinson of Pensacola, Florida had 10 rebounds coming off the bench. Towns recorded the double-double.
With the win, the Knicks improved to a record of 44 wins and 25 losses. That is the third best record in the East.
