Knicks center Mitchell Robinson out two months with ankle injury
December 14, 2023
According to Doric Sam of Bleacher Report on Monday, New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson of Pensacola, Florida will be out the next two months with an ankle injury. Robinson suffered the injury on Friday in a 133-123 loss to the Boston Celtics.
Robinson is only averaging 6.2 points per game this season, but has made a huge impact when it comes to rebounding. He is averaging a career-high 10.3 rebounds this season, and leads the entire National Basketball Association with 112 offensive rebounds. Robinson is also averaging 1.5 steals per game, and 1.3 blocks per game. He has a field goal percentage of .592 and a free throw percentage of .368.
You could make the argument that Robinson is one of the classic defenders in the NBA. His main focus on the court is to be effective around the glass. Offense is definitely not his strength. Robinson has not made one three point attempt in his career, has missed 24 of 38 free throw attempts this season, and only averages 0.7 assists per game.
With Robinson out of the Knicks lineup, Jericho Sims of Minneapolis, Minnesota got the start on Monday for the Knicks at the center spot. Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau thinks Sims and Robinson are similar players and Monday we found out why. In 21 minutes of action in a 136-130 Knicks win over the Toronto Raptors, Sims had seven rebounds, but only two points and one assist. Sims is in his third season with the Knicks after being New York’s second round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Texas.
The Knicks are currently in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. They have a record of 13 wins and nine losses.
