Anyway you look at it, it has been a very disappointing season for the Los Angeles Clippers. Heading into Sunday’s contest, they only had a record of nine wins and 21 losses. However, what we saw from the Clippers on Sunday, was greatness from small forward Kawhi Leonard of Los Angeles, California.
Leonard had a career high 55 points, and the second most points by any player in the National Basketball Association this season as the Clippers beat the Detroit Pistons 112-99. The two-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player made 17 of 26 field goal attempts, five of 10 three-point shots, and 16 of 17 free throws. Leonard also had a double-double as he had 11 rebounds, five steals, two assists, three blocks, and was a +20.
The player with the most points in a game this season was Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets. The native of Sombor, Serbia had 56 points in a 142-138 Nuggets win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Christmas Day.
Interestingly, this was the first time in Leonard’s career that he scored 50 points in a game. His previous high was 45 points on New Year’s Day, 2019 in a 122-116 Toronto Raptors win over the Utah Jazz.
In 2025-26, Leonard leads the NBA with a .976 free throw percentage. He has made 123 of 126 free throws. Leonard is also averaging 27.5 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, 3.4 assists per game, and 2.1 steals per game. Leonard has a field goal percentage of .495, and three point percentage of .375. The six-time NBA All-Star will next face the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday. Note the start time is 8pm PT.
