There will be an all-Czech final at 2026 Wimbledon. On Thursday, Karolina Muchova of Olomouc, Czech Republic and Linda Noskova of Vsetin, Czech Republic both won their semifinal matches.
This guarantees a Czech player to win the women’s singles tournament at Wimbledon. Muchova or Noskova will be the fifth women’s Wimbledon singles champion from the Czech Republic all-time. Jana Novotna won in 1998, Petra Kvitova won in 2011 and again in 2014, Marketa Vondrousova won in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova won in 2024.
Muchova defeated American Coco Gauff in the first semifinal on Wimbledon’s Center Court by a score of 6-2, 1-6, 7-6. In a very tight third set tiebreak, Muchova won 12-10. Gauff actually had a glorious chance to win the match, but shot the tennis ball right into the net when leading the match 9-8 in the tiebreak. Muchova went on to win three of the next four points to secure her spot in her second grand slam final. The only other grand slam singles final for Muchova came in 2023 when she lost 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to Iga Swiatek of Poland in the French Open final.
Muchova’s win over Gauff was a minor upset. Muchova was the 10th seed, and Gauff was the seventh seed.
It was significantly more smooth sailing for Noskova, as she defeated the 12th seed Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine, 6-4, 6-4. Noskova, the ninth seed, broke Kostyuk three times.
Muchova has won their only match head-to-head. That came in the third round of the 2025 United States Open, which Muchova won 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
