Josh Giddey jumps to 6th in the 2021 NBA Draft

Australia’s newest addition to the NBA will be through point-guard Josh Giddey after he was the 6th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

The 18-year-old from Melbourne, Victoria was the 2021 NBL Rookie of the Year and was a highly touted prospect coming into the draft.

It does come as quite a shock to fans across the world as Giddey was expected to be picked further down the draft board but still inside the lottery picks.

The former Adelaide 36er was picked in the Australian training squad for the Olympics but was missing from the final team. There was a silver lining though, as Giddey was in attendance and greeted by NBA commissioner Adam Silver.

Standing at six foot seven, the teenage sensation will join the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Kemba Walker an experienced point guard which will offer the youngster the opportunity to learn from one of the best players in the league.

It will be interesting to see what transpires in the coming weeks as he will now begin preparing for the Summer League.

In his 28 games played for the 36ers, Giddey averaged 10.9 points per game and recorded three triple-doubles on his way to becoming the first Australian to record a triple-double in consecutive games.

He led the league in assists as he averaged 7.6 per game along with 7.3 rebounds.
