Jon Rahm to compete at the Masters after birth of his child
April 8, 2021
Jon Rahm of Barrika, Spain will be competing at the Masters this weekend after all. There was some speculation that Rahm might skip the first major of the men’s golf season to be with his wife, who was expecting their first child. However, according to Eric Todisco of People Magazine, Rahm’s wife Kelley gave birth to their son Kepa this past Saturday, which means Rahm is good to go at Augusta, which starts Thursday.
Rahm is still looking for his first victory of the 2021 PGA season, after winning two PGA events in 2020. Last year he won the Memorial Tournament (best known as the golf event hosted by Jack Nicklaus and his wife Barbara), by beating American Ryan Palmer by three strokes after putting together a four-round score of -9. Then during the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Rahm beat two-time Major champion Dustin Johnson in a playoff to win the BMW Championship in Chicago.

Overall, Rahm has won five PGA events, in addition to winning six events on the European Tour. He is simply one of the most dangerous players in the field because of the overall power he brings to the golf course on a consistent basis.
But the question heading into Thursday is will Rahm be mentally ready to compete? The fact that he is now a father for only a few days, which brings additional challenges. Jokingly, before the birth of his son, he also recommended people do not pick him in golf pools. Now that his son is born, do golf bettors take a chance on the big man from Spain? The bottom line is, you might be better off by picking  Americans Dustin Johnson or Bryson DeChambeau.
