Joel Embiid scores 51 points as 76ers beat Timberwolves 127-113

The Philadelphia 76ers are winners of six of their last seven games following a 127-113 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. For the seventh time in his career, Joel Embiid of Yaounde, Cameroon reached the half century mark in total points for a single game.

Embiid scored 51 points in 36 minutes and eight seconds. He made 17 of 25 field goals and 17 of 18 free throws. Embiid also had 12 rebounds for the double-double, three assists, two steals and one block.

Only two 76ers had an impact on Wednesday. The only other player to reach double digits in total points was Tyrese Maxey of Dallas, Texas, who scored 35 points.

This is the second time this season that Embiid has scored 50 points in a game. He accomplished the feat in a 131-126 win over the Washington Wizards on December 6. The other five times Embiid reached 50 points in his career in a single game came on February 19, 2021 (50 points in a 112-105 76ers win over the Chicago Bulls), exactly 11 months later on January 19, 2021 (50 points in a 123-110 76ers win over the Orlando Magic), on November 13, 2022 (59 points in a 105-98 76ers win over the Utah Jazz), on December 11, 2022 (53 points in a 131-113 76ers win over the Charlotte Hornets), and on April 4, 2023 (52 points in a 103-101 76ers win over the Boston Celtics).

Three other players have guided their team to victory with a 50-point performance this season. Maxey had 50 points in a 137-126 76ers win over the Indiana Pacers on November 12, Giannis Antetokounmpo of Athens, Greece had 64 points in a 140-126 Milwaukee Bucks win over the Pacers on December 13, and Jalen Brunson of New Brunswick, New Jersey had 50 points in a 139-122 Knicks win over the Phoenix Suns on December 15.

In 2023-24, Embiid has averaged a league-high and career-high 35.1 points per game. He is also averaging a double-double (11.8 rebounds per game), 5.9 assists per game, 1.9 blocks per game, 1.1 steals per game, a field goal percentage of .541, three-point percentage of .333, and free throw percentage of .893.

The 76ers are third in the East. They are at 19 wins and eight losses.
