According to ESPN on Monday, Memphis Grizzlies center Jaren Jackson Jr. tied the franchise record for blocks in a game with eight as the Grizzlies beat the Atlanta Hawks 128-103. The previous records belonged to brothers Pau and Marc Gasol of Spain, and Stromile Swift of Shreveport, Louisiana. Pau Gasol actually accomplished the feat twice in Memphis.
Swift was the first Grizzlies player to have eight blocks in a game. He accomplished the feat in a 95-88 Grizzlies loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on November 20, 2022. Pau Gasol then had eight blocks on February 20, 2004 in a 97-92 Grizzlies win over the Phoenix Suns, and on January 29, 2007 in a 124-117 Grizzlies win over the Sacramento Kings. Prior to Jackson Jr., Marc Gasol was the last Grizzlies player with eight blocks in a game on January 4, 2013, in an 86-84 Grizzlies loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Jackson Jr. has emerged into a blocking specialist. Last year he led the NBA in blocks per game (2.3) and blocks overall (177). He was the first Grizzlies player in franchise history to lead the NBA in blocks during a single regular season, and in the process, set the Grizzlies single season record for most blocks per game in a season and total blocks in a season.
This year, Jackson Jr. has 3.6 blocks per game and 40 total blocks in 11 Grizzlies contests. Memphis met our expectations on Monday, as they not only covered the spread of 10 points, but they also combined with Atlanta to score 231 points, which was 3.5 more points than the total line of 227 points.Â
The Grizzlies have won six games in a row now and have a record of 18 wins and nine losses. They are half a game back of the New Orleans Pelicans, who lead the Western Conference at 18 wins and eight losses.
