Jannik Sinner of Innichen, Italy has won Wimbledon in 2026. In the gentlemen’s singles final on Sunday, Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev of Germany, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4. It was a battle of the top two seeded players in the tournament as Sinner was seeded first and Zverev was seeded second.
The first two sets were extremely even. Zverev won the first set tiebreak 9-7, and Sinner won the second tiebreak 7-2. However, in the third set, the momentum seemed to shift in Sinner’s favour. Zverev fell during a point, and seemed to injure his knee. In a great display of sportsmanship, Sinner ran over to Zverev and helped his opponent get up. The knee issue seemed to give Zverev a problem, because he did not test Sinner at all the rest of the match after falling to the ground.
One key statistic in the men’s final was unforced errors. Sinner only had 25 while Zverev had 45. According to Matt Trollope of ausopen.com, the 45 unforced errors that Zverev had on Sunday were the most he had in one match during the entire Wimbledon tournament.
This was the 15th time that Sinner has played Zverev in their careers. Sinner has dominated the head-to-head play, as he has won 11 of 15 matches, including 10 in a row dating back to the semifinals of Cincinnati in 2024. Five of the wins during the streak have come in 2026.
Sinner has now won five major titles. He previously won the 2024 United States Open, 2024 and 2025 Australian Open, and 2025 Wimbledon.
It is no surprise Sinner is ranked number one. He has now won six tournaments in 2026. Sinner also won the five ATP Masters 1000 series events to be played this year–Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome.
