Jamie Melham has been booked to ride Blind Raise in the Group 1 Cox Plate, with trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young locking in the lightweight jockey after the gelding’s brave second in Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas.
Racing.com reported on Saturday that Busuttin and Young moved quickly to secure Melham following Blind Raise’s second behind Warwoven in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas at Caulfield. Just Horse Racing also reported Melham had been secured for a possible Cox Plate tilt.
As a three-year-old gelding, Blind Raise would carry 49.5kg in the weight-for-age classic over 2040 metres at Flemington on Saturday 24 October, Racing.com said.
Why Melham, not Shinn
Blake Shinn has ridden Blind Raise at all three starts this preparation, but cannot make 49.5kg, according to Racing.com. That opened the door for Melham, who partnered James Cummings-trained Broadsiding at the same weight in the 2024 Cox Plate, finishing third behind Via Sistina and Prognosis.

Cox Plate still not locked in
Despite booking Melham, connections have not confirmed Blind Raise will run. Young told Racing.com a decision would be made in the coming days once they see how the gelding pulls up from the Guineas.
“We’ll see how he pulls up; he’s got to come through it in good order,” Young told Racing.com.
