Ja Morant fined by NBA after making second career buzzer beater
April 5, 2025
Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies made his second career buzzer beater in the National Basketball Association on Thursday. He accomplished the feat in a 110-108 Grizzlies win over the Miami Heat.
Morant made a two-point jump shot from nine feet. There was a video review to see if the 25-year-old point guard from Dalzell, South Carolina got the field goal attempt off in time, and it was determined by officials that he did.
Morant’s first buzzer beater of his career came on December 19, 2023. He accomplished the feat in a 115-113 Grizzlies win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
The buzzer beater against the Pelicans 16 months ago came the first game after Morant was suspended 25 games for holding a gun in a vehicle in Memphis. Ironically, Morant was disciplined further on Thursday after a pair of incidents in the Grizzlies game during the Heat. Â He was seen using a finger gun gesture twice and was subsequently fined $75,000.
Morant finished the game against the Heat with 30 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal. He made 14 of 22 field goals, five of eight three point shots, and all three free throws.
The Grizzlies win over the Heat snapped a four game losing streak. During the streak, Memphis lost 125-104 to the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 27, 134-127 to the Los Angeles Lakers on March 29, 117-103 to the Boston Celtics on March 31, and 134-125 to the Golden State Warriors on April 1.
Memphis is currently in a sixth place tie in the Western Conference with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Both teams are at 45 wins and 32 losses.
