IT’S BLINKERS TIME FOR PERTH STAR
May 11, 2024
SIMON Miller has decided the time is appropriate to put the blinkers on his superstar mare Amelia’s Jewel in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
Miller says he is putting the blinkers on her for this race in order for her to show more toe in her races.
” I’m looking forward to it, I know she goes quicker with them on so hopefully she can do the same on race day,” the Perth based trainer said.
The Simon Miller trained mare Amelia’s Jewel is $4.20 favourite with
PlayUp. Interestingly she has not been able to win any of her last 4 races starting as favourite.
Two starts ago she was beaten by 0.5 lengths in the Group 3 Roma Cup by Oscar’s Fortune who is the third favourite in the markets at $5.50.
However, last start in the Quokka it was Oscar’s Fortune running third behind Amelia’s Jewel who finished second.
Champion jockey William Pike is riding Oscar’s Fortune but he’ll need to turn around his current record at Morphettville where he has never ridden a winner.
Amelia’s Jewel gets in with the top weight of 56.5kg while Oscar’s Fortune gets in 3kg lighter with 53.5kg.
Benedetta will be lining up for her third start this preparation carrying 55kg and is paying $5.00 on PlayUp.
She was slowly away here last start but Jason Warren says he thinks that was due to being loaded early in barrier 1 and having to wait for the rest of the field.
Jamie Kah gets the ride on Benedetta. After her Group 1 win last week in the South Australian Cup she will be looking to continue her good riding form and add another Group 1 win.
If Benedetta can jump away better than her last run she will be right in the finish and hard to beat.
