Is Messi the the undisputed GOAT?
July 11, 2021

Now that Lionel Messi has added the final piece to his long list of achievements, the Argentine forward may have cemented his position as the greatest footballer to ever live.
With all the individual and team accolades, there was still a question over Messi’s achievements for his country. He had just fallen short on four occasions, three times at the Copa America and once at the World Cup where his Argentinian side were the runners-up.
Although Argentina came into the game against Brazil as underdogs, Angel Di Maria scored the only goal of the game to gift the visitors the championship in enemy territory.

Today’s triumph has answered those calls for Messi to provide for his nation and with the best off-season from a Ballon d’Or contender, it is highly likely that he will pick up his seventh and also extend his gap over Cristiano Ronaldo (5).
The debate over who is the greatest can never have a complete answer, it is subjective and no matter what argument you have, there will be another on the contrary. For former England and Barcelona superstar, Gary Lineker there is no doubt in his mind over who is the best.
Congratulations to @Argentina on winning Copa America. A major tournament success for Messi after so many near misses and such a long wait. He’s been preposterously good in this tournament and another Balón d’Or is a given. The undisputed 🐐 world football.

Time will tell whether Lineker’s prediction for the Ballon d’Or pays off, with just under six months left till the award is presented.
In other football news, the European Championship final between Italy and England will take place overnight at the Wembley Stadium in London.
Will it end like the Copa America final where the home team fails to win or will it finally come home for England. Stay tuned for more.
