Hornets power forward Grant Williams out for year with torn ACL
November 27, 2024

According to Austin Veazey of Sports Illustrated on Sunday, Charlotte Hornets power forward Grant Williams of Houston, Texas will be out for the remainder of the 2024-25 National Basketball Association with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The injury happened on Sunday in the Hornets’s 125-119 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Williams was driving to the basket in the paint and then fell awkwardly.
Another Hornets’s player made headlines in the loss to Milwaukee. That is because LaMelo Ball scored 50 points.
One major story for the Hornets this season has been injuries. Center Mark Williams has been out with a foot injury, and center Nick Richards has been out with a broken rib.
Williams is in his second season with the Hornets after being traded from the Dallas Mavericks on February 8. In 2024-25, he averaged 10.4 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game, 1.1 steals per game, with a field goal percentage of .439, three point percentage of .365, and a free throw percentage of .838.
It is expected to be a tough season for the Hornets as they have only won six of their first 17 games for a winning percentage of .353. One problem has been their play on the road, where they have only won one game. That took place in their season opener where they beat the Houston Rockets 110-105 on October 23. The only team not to have a road win so far are the Toronto Raptors, who have lost 10 games away from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Interestingly, it was against the Raptors, that Williams had a season-high 17 points. It came in a 138-133 Charlotte win over Toronto on October 30.
