It was a terrific day for Hae-ran Ryu of Geumjeong-myeon, South Korea at the 2026 Evian Championship in France. Ryu had a score of 60, which set the record for the best score ever at a major championship in women’s golf. Over three days, Ryu is now at -19.
Ryu had nine birdies and one eagle. The 2026 Women’s PGA Championship winner posted a score of eleven-under-par 60, as she had a score of 29 on the front nine and 31 on the back nine. Ryu’s score of 60 broke the record that was previously tied by Hyo-joo Kim of Wonju, South Korea, Leona Maguire of County Cavan, Ireland and Jeong-eun Lee of Suncheon, South Korea. Kim first posted a score of 61 in the first round when she won the 2014 Evian Championship. Then Lee had a score of 61 in the second round of the 2021 Evian Championship, and Maguire has a score of 61 in the fourth round of the 2021 Evian Championship.
On Saturday, Ryu eagled the par-four sixth hole, and birdied the second, fifth, seventh, ninth, 10th, 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th holes. Ryu has had two eagles in the tournament so far. The other was on Saturday in round three. She eagled the 15th hole.
In round one, Ryu shot a score of five-under-par 66. She had six birdies and one bogey. Ryu birdied the third, ninth, 12th, 14th, 16th and 18th holes, and bogeyed the eighth hole. In round two, Ryu, shot a score of three-under-par 68. She had one eagle, three birdies and two bogeys. Her birdies came on the ninth, 10th and 18th holes, and bogeys came on the fourth and 17th holes.
There is one more golfer in contention. That is Aki Iwai of Saitama, Japan, who is in second place at -16, and three strokes back of Ryu. Iwai was the round one leader at Evian.
