The Memphis Grizzlies received some tough injury news on Thursday as it was reported that Canadian center Zach Edey of Toronto, Ontario would miss a month because of ankle injury. Edey has had some issues with his left ankle over the last two seasons. He already missed the first 13 games of the 2025-26 NBA season while he recovered from ankle surgery according to  Rogers Sportsnet.Â
It has been a solid second NBA season for Edey. He is already averaging a double-double after 11 games played. He has 13.6 points per game and 11.1 rebounds per game. Edey also has 1.9 blocks per game, 1.1 assists per game, a field goal percentage of .633, free throw percentage of .781, and three point percentage of .200.
The Grizzlies are experiencing their fair share of injuries at the moment. Among the players out include two-time All-Star point guard Ja Morant (right ankle soreness), fellow Canadian Brandon Clarke (knee surgery), Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe surgery), and John Konchar (torn ligament in his left thumb that required surgery). Morant has had his fair share of legal issues over the years, and is now at the center off trade rumours. The Grizzlies are at 11 wins and 13 losses for a winning percentage of .458. That is only the ninth best record in the Western Conference, but good enough to get into the silly play-in tournament.
I have been very familiar with Edey’s play in recent years. I followed him closely during his time at Purdue. I’m aware that he overcame significant odds for him to get to where he is at. Even though Edey had a great NCAA career, there was a lot of speculation he would not have much of an impact in the NBA. Edey has proven the critics wrong to date.
