Dustin Johnson tests positive for coronavirus

Dustin Johnson of Columbia, South Carolina has tested positive for coronavirus according to the Canadian Press. At 36 years of age, Johnson is currently ranked number one in the world.
Johnson was set to compete at the CJ Cup at the Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas which starts Thursday. This is the first time that the CJ Cup is taking place in the United States, as the last three events have been in Jeju Island, South Korea. All prior winners of the CJ Cup have been Americans. Justin Thomas of Louisville, Kentucky won in 2018 and 2020, and Brooks Koepka of West Palm Beach, Florida won in 2019.
According to Ryan Lavner of The Golf Channel, Johnson was showing symptoms of coronavirus and immediately alerted officials. He is currently preparing for the Masters, which takes place in November at Augusta. In preparing for the final major of the season, Johnson was also scheduled to participate at the Zozo Championship in California and the Houston Open.
Johnson was considered a strong contender to win the green jacket for the first time. In 2020, he has won three times. The events were the Travelers Championship in Connecticut in June, the Northern Trust in Boston in August, and the Tour Championship in Atlanta in September.

In addition to Johnson, Tony Finau of Salt Lake City, Utah tested positive for coronavirus prior to the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas last week. The tournament was won by Martin Laird of Scotland. There have been 87, 314 cases of coronavirus in the state of Nevada and 1691 deaths.
