Brooke Henderson wins the 2022 Evian Championship

Canadian golf superstar Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario may not have been at her best on Sunday, but it was good enough. In the final round of the 2022 Evian Championship from Evian-las-Bains, France, Henderson shot an 18-hole score of even par to hang on to win the second major of her career with a score of -17.

On Sunday, Henderson got off to a horrendous start. She bogeyed the first hole, and double bogeyed the sixth hole. Henderson even lost her lead on Sunday for a temporary time when she was passed by runner-up Sophie Schubert of the United States, who was in second place at -16.

However over the last seven holes in the final four rounds, Henderson was very productive. She birdied the 14th, 15th, and 18th holes, and returned to -17, the score she posted after the first three rounds.

Five more golfers got into contention in the final round and finished two strokes off the lead at -15. They were Japan’s Mao Saigo, New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, England’s Charley Hull, South Korea’s Hyo Joo Kim, and Spain’s Carlota Ciganda.

This was Henderson’s second career major. She previously won the 2016 Women’s PGA Championship outside of Seattle, Washington. Of the five players in third place, two were major champions as well. They were Kim and Ko. Kim won the 2014 Evian Masters, and Ko won the 2015 Evian Masters and 2016 ANA Inspiration.

Henderson has now won 12 tournaments in her career, and two in 2022. She previously won the 54-hole ShopRite LPGA Classic last month in New Jersey.
