Adam Scott will not compete at 2020 Olympic Games
April 24, 2021

According to Rex Hoggard of Golf Channel, 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott of Adelaide, Australia has decided not to compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. The reason for his decision is so he can spend some time with his family.
This is the second straight Olympic Games that Scott will not be participating in. He decided not to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro because of his concerns with the Zika Virus outbreak.
Scott is currently ranked 35th in the world. In Scott making his decision, the golfer that presently benefits the most is Marc Leishman of Warrnambool, Australia. Leishman is 37th in the world. The other Australian that currently gets a men’s Olympic spot is Cameron Smith of Brisbane, who is ranked 25th in the world.

All golfers ranked in the top 15 in the world qualify for the Olympic Games with a maximum of four golfers per country. Due to the fact there are 10 Americans ranked in the top 15, there are six American golfers from the top 15 who will not be going to Tokyo.
Scott is the second men’s golfer that is withdrawing from the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The first was two-time major champion Dustin Johnson of the United States.
At this time there is no guarantee that there will be an Olympic Games. One must realize that approximately only 1% of the Japanese population has been vaccinated so far, and 80% of the Japanese population do not want the Olympic Games this summer. Justin Rose of Great Britain is the defending Olympic champion.
