One of Australia’s greatest golfers of all time has coronavirus. According to the PGA Tour on Wednesday, Adam Scott was diagnosed with the disease on Wednesday, and has subsequently had to pull out of the Zozo Championship in Lake Sherwood, California.
Scott is now expected to self isolate. His focus at this time is on his recovery.
The state of California where Scott was tested, is no longer the hardest hit state in the United States. The number of positive coronavirus cases has been passed by Texas. California has had 888, 305 cases, while Texas has had 889, 513. California meanwhile is third in total deaths with 17, 194. They have fewer than New York, which has had 33, 523 deaths, and Texas (17, 786 fatalities).
Scott, who is originally from Adelaide, won the 2013 Masters. He defeated Angel Cabrera of Argentina in a playoff after posting a four round score of -9. A year later, Scott was ranked number one in the world in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Scott became the first Australian ever to win the Masters seven years ago. Ten other Australians have won major golf titles. Peter Thomson leads the way with five British Open Championships. The other nine are Jim Ferrier, Kelvin Nagle, David Graham, Greg Norman, Wayne Grady, Ian Baker-Finch, Steve Elkington, Geoff Ogilvy, and Jason Day.
At the Zozo Championship in California this weekend, Tiger Woods is the defending champion. The event normally takes place in Japan, but has been moved to the United States this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Scott, who is 40 years of age, has been replaced in the field by 42-year-old Jim Herman of Cincinnati, Ohio.
