Golden State Warriors undefeated after trailing at halftime in each game

The Golden State Warriors are undefeated to begin the 2021-22 National Basketball Association regular season. They are one of three teams with perfect records to date, as they are joined by the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz.

In the four wins, Stephen Curry made NBA headlines by recording his 5000th NBA assist. However, the Warriors as a team have been known for something else during the stretch run, and that is for their notable comebacks. In all four Warriors wins, they have trailed at halftime. According to ESPN, Golden State became only the second team in NBA history to be 4-0 after losing after the first 24 minutes in each contest. The other team to accomplish the feat were the 1985-86 Los Angeles Clippers.

On October 19, the Warriors were losing 59-53 to the Los Angeles Lakers, before coming back to win 121-114. On October 21, the Warriors were losing 67-66 to the Clippers before coming back to win 115-113. On October 24, the Warriors were losing 62-60 to the Sacramento Kings before coming back to win 119-107. Then on Tuesday, the Warriors were losing 59-48 to the Oklahoma City Thunder before coming back to win 106-98.

In the Clippers’ four-game stretch in 1985-86, they were losing 57-42 at the half to the Kings before winning 108-104 on October 25, 1985. They then trailed 59-57 to the Houston Rockets at the half before winning 130-129 in double overtime, a night later on October 26, 1985. Those victories preceded a 119-113 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on October 29, 1985, where they trailed 61-50 at the half, and a 120-112 Portland win over the Chicago Bulls on Halloween, 1985, where they trailed 64-59 after 24 minutes. Despite winning their first four games in 1985-86, the Clippers would only win 32 of their next 82 games and miss the playoffs.
