Sheza Alibi has drawn barrier six for Saturday’s $10 million Golden Eagle at Royal Randwick, with Chris Waller’s Beiwacht and Autumn Boy drawing 10 and five in a full field of 18 four-year-olds.

Racing NSW confirmed the final field and barriers after Tuesday night’s draw. The 1500m race is being run at Group 1 level for the first time, in its eighth running and second year at Randwick.

Bookmakers reopened betting after the draw with Sheza Alibi at $1.90, and Beiwacht and Autumn Boy sharing second favouritism at $8, 7NEWS reported. Skyhook drifted to $13 after drawing barrier 16, and Silver Eagle winner Apocalyptic drew the outside gate, 18, and was $17, with no other runner shorter than $21.

Owner happy with six

Owner Fred Noffke had only two barriers left to choose from when Sheza Alibi’s name came out. He said he had asked trainer Peter Moody what he wanted, and Moody “didn’t mind so long as I was drawn out a bit”.

“I was very happy,” Noffke said.

Sheza Alibi, trained by Moody and Katherine Coleman and ridden by Luke Nolen, drops back to 1500m after being beaten a short head by Land Legend in the Group 1 Might And Power Stakes at Caulfield, Bets.com.au noted. Her wins include the Randwick Guineas, Doncaster Mile and Makybe Diva Stakes.

“There was a big discussion back a fair bit and Peter said we can do it,” Noffke said.

Waller changes the gear

Waller has four runners: Beiwacht, Autumn Boy, Mr Miller and Estremo. 7NEWS reported Beiwacht will wear a norton bit and Autumn Boy will race without blinkers, with stable representative Darren Beadman saying both had worked exceptionally well.

“All the way through his career, he’s raced in a ring bit,” Beadman said of Beiwacht.

Autumn Boy, ridden by Zac Purton, and Sheza Alibi have run the quinella in all four of their meetings. Autumn Boy won the first of them, as two-year-olds at Eagle Farm.

$1 million for charity

Each starter has a charity partner, and $1 million of the prizemoney will be shared among them on Saturday. Racing NSW said that will take the Golden Eagle’s charity donations past $7.3 million since 2019.

Racing NSW acting chief executive Graeme Hinton said: “It has in a short time become the second most wagered upon NSW race each year, behind only The Everest.”
