Land Legend and Ethan Brown caused a $61 boilover in the Sportsbet Might And Power (2000m) on a Good Caulfield track, holding off $1.40 favourite Sheza Alibi by a short head with Birdman third in a course-record 2:00.30. Here’s what the jockeys said.
It is always important to hear what the jockeys say after the race, as you can forgive a horse’s bad run or even find a winner next start, so head to the post-race comments below.
TORRANZINO (Celine Gaudray) – 6th
Lot of speed on didn’t really suit him. He was uncomfortable throughout the whole race but he’ll benefit a lot of fitness going forward.
TREASURETHE MOMENT (Daniel Stackhouse) – 5th
We just rode her cold. It was a plan to go out there and just ride a bit quieter and she travelled really nice underneath me. It felt like we were chasing a long way out and she probably just struggled on that hard surface to catch those ones. She got going again late, so I think the team will make a decision where she goes to next.

KINGSWOOD (John Allen) – 4th
He ran well. Even though we went a good gallop he was comfortable in the run. I loomed on a corner thinking I was going to be in there with a shout, but he hasn’t gone down far and if he comes through that race well I think he’ll run a bit of a race next week.
BIRDMAN (Ben Melham) – 3rd
Weird race. weird result. He may have just put in a little bit of a flat run, my bloke. He’s obviously rated so highly second-up and was very impressive here on a firm service, and it was a 2000-metre staying test (today). He felt the pinch a little bit but seems to have pulled up well and he’ll still be good enough in the Cox Plate.

SHEZA ALIBI (Luke Nolen) – 2nd
For a race of no speed we found a bit. I came back to follow Birdman, she was good and solid through the line. She’s ticked that 2000-metre box, just hopefully the run hasn’t taken too much of a toll for the race in three weeks, but I was very proud of her today.
LAND LEGEND (Ethan Brown) – 1st
I said to Ciaron and Jack that it had a bit of a Globe feel about it. Globe won the race last year and he beat Treasurethe Moment at $1.20. Small field, blindfold off today and I think he was a bit sharper in the gates. Especially stepping away.
He’s a rock hard fit horse. He’s won over 2600 (metres) bowling along so I was happy to make it a staying test. It was all the horse. I was in the back seat for most of the race. Masterclass training effort. I’m just pleased to get the job done. I’ve upset a few punters out there, I’m sure.
He’s half mad. I knew he would keep running. Whether he had the stamina to keep doing it after rolling at a pretty solid gallop, I wasn’t sure if he needed the run again but you can never doubt Ciaron Maher. He had him in great order, the race worked out perfectly and I’m glad they ran him.
