Giants sign James Robinson and Cole Beasley
July 25, 2023
According to the Associated Press on Friday, the New York Giants announced the signing of two free agents, as they came to terms with wide receiver Cole Beasley of Dallas, Texas, and running back James Robinson of Rockford, Illinois. According to overthecap.com, Beasley has signed a one-year deal worth $1.2 million. The financial terms and contract length for Robinson’s deal with the Giants have not been announced.
The Giants are Beasley’s fourth National Football League team. He previously played seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys from 2012 to 2018, four seasons with the Buffalo Bills from 2019 to 2022, and one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022. Last season, Beasley actually began the season with the Buccaneers, subsequently retired, and then came out of retirement and joined the Bills.
In 2022, Beasley only had six catches for 35 yards in four games. In 153 NFL games, Beasley has 556 catches for 5744 receiving yards and 34 touchdown catches.
Robinson is joining his fourth NFL franchise. He played three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2020 to 2022 before being traded from the Jaguars to the New York Jets for a sixth round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. In the 2023 NFL offseason, Robinson signed a two-year contract worth $8 million with the New England Patriots, but was subsequently released before the season even started.
There appears to be a significant reason why the Giants are interested in Robinson at this time. That is because the Giants and Saquon Barkley have not been able to come to terms on a long term contract, and Barkley is threatening to hold out.
This past season, Robinson had 110 rushes for 425 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 11 catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns. For his career, Robinson has 514 rushes for 2262 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. He also had 91 catches for 617 receiving yards and five touchdown catches.
