FREE: Belmont Selections: Wednesday 20th July

9 races from Belmont tomorrow with cutaway racing returning with the rail out to the 17m position. The rain appears to be holding off until Thursday, so am expecting the track to be in that soft 5 range, potentially a soft 6 at worst.

Race 1 – 12:04PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK PLATE (1400 METRES)

4. Mojo’s Luck – 1. Prince I Think – 6. Kelvinater – 3. Bonnie’s Lad

8. Twice A Fortnight – 3. Senorita Dorotea – 2. Probity – 1. Astrape

Twice A Fortnight

Initially thought this might be a little left field here (the punters since markets have opened certainly disagree…) but I think this horse has a serious scope of ability. The only horse in the race still a maiden, she’s run 0.1L 2nd to Cywer (who showed that is strong form last Wednesday), 2nd to Vital Gem (another who looks a very nice horse in her own right) and 1st up this prep at Pinjarra, got back to an impossible position in running from the widest gate and flew home for 2nd in the fastest L600/400/200m splits of the entire meeting, running a sub 23sec L400m on a soft track, that is absolutely flying. Drawn barrier 1 here, she is perfectly suited to cutaway racing and from 2-3 back the fence with her turn of foot, in what looks a very open race I’m very confident she can be in the finish, would love each way.

Race 4 – 1:49PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. My Baby Blue Jean – 2. Storm Commander – 4. Fatale Femme – 1. First Law

My Baby Blue Jean

Scratched from Saturday to save for this, My Baby Blue Jean finds a much more suitable assignment. A horse that in my opinion needs to find the front without too much genuine pressure being applied to be her most effective, Taj can bounce her to the top here with the other speed influences Fire Ant, Can’t Get Enough and Iron Sharp the 3 horses most likely to compound first. This should give her a nice buffer once they turn for home on her main dangers and she is incredibly tough to run down when able to find the rail and kick off the bend, feel although she was disappointing on face value fresh she would have derived great benefit from that run under her belt too, looks very hard to beat.

2. Bonneville Black – 3. Red Hot Hope – 7. Eldorado River – 4. All Man

Bonneville Black

The weight is a query, but Bonneville Black is incredibly well placed back into this grade from a 66+ with Chris Parnham going aboard. Jade walked along out in front, handed up mid race and that was quite simply all she wrote, his strength is being able to outstay them, not outsprint them. The type of horse that needs to be ridden along on the speed at a good gallop and turn the race into a real test of stamina, was a terrific run 2 starts back in a race run at a brutal tempo behind Reliable Star and Bold Success when still building up to peak fitness. Although Chris may struggle to hold Holly out for the top from his inside if she is intent on leading, he has won from the breeze before and this is a big step back in grade. I’m $5.50, so the $9.00 on offer is more than enough for an investment.

Race 9 – 4:52PM WESTERN RACEPIX HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. The Fugazi – 2. Trevern – 3. Little Flirt – 6. Semigel

The Fugazi

$5.50 wasn’t the right price, and the punters have let the early market operators know all about it. The Fugazi is a fresh horse, and brings genuine Group 1 form to this midweek 60+, having been a very unlucky 2nd fresh last prep in a 66+ behind Winterbottom Stakes winner Graceful Girl off the back of what looked to be a relatively plain trial. Rinse and repeat, has had the one trial heading into this which was okay, pass mark for me and this has nowhere near the depth to the races he has been competing in over the majority of his career. Plenty of speed on here, maps to stalk them midfield and has the turn of foot to be finishing over the top of them here, incredibly well placed by the Gangemi’s.
