FREE: Belmont Selections & Staking Plan: Wednesday 25th May

Apocalyptic conditions in Perth over the last couple of days have left us on what looks likely to be a Heavy 8/Soft 7 deck for the first time in a long while. The rail goes to the 15m and the conditions look to be clearing up for raceday, with only a light shower or two forecast.

Race 1 – 12:53PM BRUISER WILSON PLATE (1200 METRES)

4. Miss Drakova – 9. Grey Mistress – 7. Coatachino – 1. Final Series

Race 2 – 1:28PM REX MITCHELL HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

3. War Gem – 2. Mosquito – 6. Category Three – 5. Black Spirit

Race 3 – 2:03PM BERT BOARDLEY HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

3. Canny Jack – 2. Dark Lass – 7. Special Picture – 1. Birdieagle

Canny Jack

Canny Jack is a swimmer who was one of the runs of the race from the strongest form reference heading into this event. Really building into his prep and last start hit the line into 3rd in a 60+ behind Atlantis Beach running nearly identical late splits to that runner from well back in the field. Loves it wet, in a race without any great deal of speed can take advantage of the gate, despite the weight swing in the main danger’s advantage, I’m going to back the senior hoop and what I thought was a much stronger run, this looks his race.

2 Units WIN

Dark Lass is terrific placement. A 60+ back to a CL3 and after Taj’s claim gets in with 1.5kgs less back in grade, not to mention Taj is also riding super. From barrier 4 fresh, got back midfield and just hit the line, don’t think there was any real intent to win there, with the blinkers on here signalling to me there is intent from the stable (both career wins have been with the shades on). Gets a 4kg swing on main rival Canny Jack and they’ll likely land very close to each other in the run. Taking into account some improvement, enjoys wet ground, certainly in with a chance here. Expecting her to be popular, she’s no star but none of these are.

Race 4 – 2:33PM NORMA FRENCH HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

4. Alimentaria – 5. Kazoku – 1. Pambella – 9. Kelora

Race 5 – 3:05PM RHONDA WORTHINGTON HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

7. Karalee Rocks – 4. Bread To Flirt – 5. Dance Session – 1. Born To Talk

Karalee Rocks

Marked her $1.90 here. You don’t win like she did on debut given the number of things that went wrong in the run. Almost came down when the gates open, missing the step by 3, held up badly at the top of the straight, green as grass once she balanced up, but once she found clear galloping room she won by 2L extending through the line, she looks a serious talent and has proven a very wet track is of no issue to her. There is speed on speed here, counting she can begin a little more sound, it sets up for a horse who can camp in behind them and let rip, Jordy just needs to find her a way through, huge upside and think $2.20 is a backable price.

3 Units WIN

Race 6 – 3:37PM JACK PAULEY HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

6. Enticing – 8. Airlie Queen – 2. My Marlaina – 9. Choice Bid

Enticing

The gate hurts, but this bloke is an absolute swimmer who I thought trialled huge recently without the winkers. Very even field but one where a large number of them are queries on a genuinely wet deck, Laqdar can keep him out of trouble and am expecting him to hit the line with a full head of steam, will lap up the conditions.

1 Unit WIN x 3 Units PLACE

Race 7 – 4:15PM KALGOORLIE-BOULDER ANNUAL DAY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

11. Miner Addiction – 3. Superiorize – 4. Northern Ruler – 5. Without Reg

Race 8 – 4:50PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

10. Rulelee – 1. Dee Keepa – 5. Stocktaka – 3. Garage Days

Staking Plan
  • Race 3 Canny Jack 2 Units WIN
  • Race 5 Karalee Rocks 3 Units WIN
  • Race 6 Enticing 1 Unit WIN x 3 Units PLACE

9 Units staked. Good luck if following.
