FREE: Belmont Selections & Staking Plan: Wednesday 18th May

Relatively lacklustre midweek Belmont card greets us today. Soft conditions with plenty of rain around, the rail goes out to the 12m.

Race 1 – 12:04PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

7. Sky Duke – 9. Pierra Art – 10. Allegro Sonata – 8. Yes Of Course

Sky Duke

Really liked the trial of Sky Duke for the Parnham yard, who I thought would get a very similar run on debut here to the one he got in said trial. Sat leader’s back, ducked back to the inside underneath horses and really powered through the line under wraps for Brad Parnham in relatively slick time too. I thought he would get the gun run stalking likely leader Pierra Art here, who I have some slight reservations on 1st up at the 1200m. This race sets up nicely for him to make a winning debut.

Allegro Sonata

Going to have a really speculative play on this runner for Stefan Vahala. Saw something in both trials and think there may be a motor hiding there somewhere, once he balanced up in his most recent I thought he hit the line with something in hand. Gets the Winkers on which should sharpen him up a touch, think the $31 available is definitely worth a small spec.

Race 2 – 12:39PM CROWN PERTH MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

1. Lord Gannicus – 4. Rockon Molly – 3. Prince I Think – 10. Weshouldsushicarol

Race 3 – 1:14PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

8. Awesome Rival – 11. The Rush – 9. Dadirra – 10. Lucky Foo Foo

Awesome Rival just wasn’t suited fresh sitting in the breeze at 1300m at the one track you probably don’t want to find yourself in the breeze (Pinj. Scarpside). Was really well-commissioned off the back of some very nice work at the trials, from the better gate here can take some cover and think that will be invaluable in seeing a much better performance. Field here of less depth, expect he can take care of these, but would like $2.90 to be betting which I doubt we will see.

Race 4 – 1:49PM AMELIA PARK MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

11. Charming Belle – 6. Liber Archie – 12. Saffiya – 8. Blue Skates

Charming Belle

Likely to be a very popular bet/tip today for the most on-fire yard/hoop combination in Australia right now. She’s been off the scene for 12 months, ran very well on debut as a 2yo in a very strong ratings race, the recent trial without the blinkers on I thought was terrific, the only slight query for a horse without great early toe is if Carbery is cluttered away in traffic from barrier 2 at the business end. If he gets the splits when he needs them, I think she wins here and Miller throws the Blinkers on for good measure, nice horse. With some slight reservations regarding how she maps, even money looks a stretch.

2 Units WIN @$2.60+ BSP

Wouldn’t surprise to see a bold run for the new yard from Saffiya. Formerly with Simon Miller, I saw glimpses of a horse well and truly good enough to at least break her maiden in 3 runs with him. Now with Sam Faithfull who is on-fire this season down in the Great South, outside the favourite finds a soft maiden on the minimum and if the new yard can generate some improvement from her, she will go around cricket score odds and isn’t hopeless.

Race 5 – 2:24PM RELIABLE ASSET MAINTENANCE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

4. Seduce Me – 2. Fatale Femme – 8. Hammarmill – 5. Desert Vixen

Seduce Me

Another Simon Miller nag with plenty of scope. Ran some big races in her initial prep, her last trip to the races resulted in less than a length 2nd behind Pat’s Got Sass when finding plenty of traffic in the straight, that was a very strong race and in behind her there were a number of subsequent winners. The most recent trial when bursting between horses under next to no riding from Pat Carbery was very impressive, with Advanced behind her there under riding since coming out and utterly belting a CL3 field last week at Northam. Finds some cover here, may have some traffic to contend with but if Brad can find her clear air at the right time, I’m confident she will be in the finish.

2. The Admiral – 5. Money For Old Rope – 6. Tiff’s Lad – 7. Aztec Gold
