FREE: Belmont Selections & Staking Plan: Saturday 28th May

Perth feeling a bit like Melbourne at the moment, with the weather today a farcry from what we were seeing earlier this week. Looks to be a perfect day for racing. Track Good 4, rail goes out to the 9m with some real on-speed patterns emerging over the past couple of meetings so will certainly pay to “watch early”. The Belmont Sprint is a cracker.

Race 1 – 11:24AM MORLEY GROWERS MARKET PLATE (1200 METRES)

6. Vampi At Play – 1. Top Of The Pops – 2. Upper Limits – 3. Rock N Tales

Vampi At Play

This filly was tipped out after racing as an early 2yo last season. Had one race start when 2nd behind very fast Filly Revitup over what I think was an unsuitable 1000m, she raced wide throughout there and was enormous in the manner she just kept coming late to run 2nd, hitting the line in front of a couple of nice 2yos in Costume Party and Saintorio. The most recent trial she just ambled up to them after travelling 3 wide throughout and if asked for an effort by Brad I think she could have won that trial by 5 or 6. She looks a very nice filly and is drawn to get the run of the race from the gate. Small play.

1 Unit WIN

Top Of The Pops looked to be in some serious trouble last start but was still too good in getting himself out of a hairy situation at the top of the straight. Lacks early toe, think drawing out a bit is better for him. He’s shown he’s a really high class 2yo, it’s just whether or not he may have had enough now, not many 2yos win 4 in a row in their first prep? Giving some nice types some considerable weight might finally be the leveller.

Upper Limits another who is right in the game, debut run was very good and recent trial was super while a big run from Rock N Tales also would not surprise.

Race 2 – 11:59AM GLENROY CHAFF HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

3. The Velvet Queen – 4. Zephyra – 1. Mojo Rhythm – 7. Dash Of Brandy

The Velvet Queen

Been a costly conveyance to punters so far in her career, but this really does look the best set-up she has found this prep. Last start found herself back last in a race where they jogged along at a farcical tempo, to thunder home from where she was in running to 2nd, less than a length off the winner, was a massive performance. Drawn Barrier 1 in a race with absolutely no speed, Parnham can utilise the gate and hold up leaders back. Gets a kilo and a half swing in her favour on main danger (perhaps only) Zephyra and will be far closer to her when they straighten than the 6L off her on the turn she was last start. This is her race to turn the tables.

Race 3 – 12:34PM TABTOUCH WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

6. Can’tcatchthis – 3. Premium Choice – 5. Requisition – 2. Scandolo

Race 4 – 1:13PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

6. Gunmetal Grey – 5. Billy Ray – 2. Fangio – 8. Wakan Tanka

Gunmetal Grey

Building into her preparation very nicely is Gunmetal Grey. 1st up closed off really well over the unsuitable 1000m behind subsequent winner Warm N Fuzzy, then last start went to a strong 66+ over the 1200m, got back worse than midfield and once again hit the line full of running for 3rd after being held up briefly at the top of the straight. 3rd up now, hard fit, out to the 1400m, opportunity to utilise the gate from barrier 1 for Chris Parnham to hold up leaders back here in a race that lacks early tactical speed. This looks a terrific race for her to break through, 3rd up last prep off a freshen ran 2nd to Bright Diamond and beat home Angelic Miss. Ross Price is due a winner.

1.5 Units WIN

Race 5 – 1:53PM VALE DICK VINCENT HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

4. Baby Blues – 7. Street Fair – 8. Success Play – 1. Ginger Green

Baby Blues

Convinced Baby Blues would have beaten home Ginger Green last start had the run appeared for her along the fence. She has had no luck at either of her past two when held up for the entirety of the straight essentially in both, she looked to be travelling into it (before she was chopped out) last start quite nicely. I thought we’d see a better price and think you certainly will late in the piece, she can run a big race.

0.75 Units EACH WAY @BSP

Race 6 – 2:29PM QUAYCLEAN HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

2. Media Baron – 3. Double Digit – 6. Piccola Signora – 8. Gunnago

Race 7 – 3:05PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (2100 METRES)

1. Bold Success – 5. Shadow Girl – 6. Phenomenal Anomaly – 8 Secret Pearl

Race 8 – 3:40PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

1. Fashion Queen – 2. Featherweight – 12. Glamour Packed – 6. Rebelzone

Fashion Queen

Fashion Queen evolved into a really nice horse last preparation, running some terrific and some very unlucky races behind some very strong types. Love the use of the claim here in a very even race, I thought the recent trial was a pass mark and if she has taken any improvement from the last time we saw her in work, she is more than capable of making her presence felt here and at the current price is too far over my price (marked $4.80) to not have something on. Races well fresh, will just need a good steer from Watson.

1 Unit WIN

Race 9 – 4:15PM FURPHY – BELMONT SPRINT (1400 METRES)

2. Valour Road – 5. Red Can Man – 16. Amasenus – 14. Kaptain Kaos

Valour Road

Absolutely loved the way Valour Road finished off, particularly his last 200m through the line, in the Roma Cup when noticeably a little underdone pre-race. At this stage of his career, 1400m is big tick, and from the gate he should land in the absolute A1 position in running. Yes, Red Can Man looks very hard to beat but the price differential between the two is far too big for what it should be, the fact you can get each way about him is to me, ridiculous. With improvement out of that Roma Cup run fresh, he’s over the odds and is a huge winning chance.

1.5 Units WIN

Race 10 – 4:50PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

10. Sneaky Chance – 1. Eeyore Wayz – 6. Trevern – 11. State Of Power

Sneaky Chance

There is speed on top of speed here, and it sets up beautifully for a horse with a turn of foot that can park up in behind them, peel and zap them. Don’t think she ran out the 1200m last start when not able to pick up Cross Statement late, back to the 1000m, little freshen up, all the form behind her recent 3 victories is littered with winners, she gets a lovely chance to break through once again, want $3.00 to really get stuck in.

2 Units WIN @$3.00+ BSP

Eeyore Wayz

Going to have something small on Eeyore Wayz to chop out. Proven weight carrier, finds a perfect race for how he prefers to race sitting back off a genuine tempo and unleashing, absolutely loves the Belmont 1000m. The Bullet may need to pick his way through some traffic once they straighten, but if he finds an out he will be thundering home late.
