FREE: Belmont Selections: Saturday 27th August

Idyllic Prince Stakes Day at Belmont on a really interesting 9 race card. Track is improving after a week of sunshine and should start in a Good 4/at worst soft 5 region.

Race 1 – 12:38PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

9. Western Knight – 4. Divine Pair – 1. Agent Jay – 5. Storm Commander

Western Knight

The most intriguing runner in the opener and is the way I am going to side up to kick off the day.
Although he didn’t beat much, I thought it was incredible how soft that win was at Northam over the shortened 985m given how far back he got in running. Clint had time over the last 50m to even put the queue in the rack, that’s how well he won. Best late splits of that entire meeting, huge upside being the full brother to Western Empire which admittedly will always probably mean he goes around unders in most races he goes to, but I’m buying into the hype and think with the speed engaged here through Trevern and Agent Jay,  he just needs some galloping room and I think he can finish over the top of these, cerise and white hard to beat in the opener.

Race 2 – 1:18PM CROWN TOWERS PLATE (1200 METRES)

4. Baby Paris – 8. Saloon Bar – 11. Azena – 1. Saintorio

Race 3 – 1:58PM TABTOUCH-WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

5. My Fury – 4. Zero Consequence – 8. Noble Born – 1. Arnie’s Boy

My Fury

Really like the placement here for My Fury. Those Impressive Racing colours returned to the winners stall on Wednesday through Mitch Pateman and Protege, and think this is a really nice set up for her here. The run last weekend she was caught deep punching the breeze throughout, sat 4th and all those who settled in front of her really compounded quickly but she really kept fighting all the way through to the line. Backs up off the 7 days, drops back in grade to a 60+ and only gets in with half a kilo extra after Holly’s claim, she can box-seat here and run really well. Ideally, was hoping for a bit of a better price, but I’ll be happy to get involved with her at around that $4.50-4.60 mark.

Race 6 – 3:45PM RELIABLE ASSET MAINTENANCE HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

1. Ginger Baker – 3. Benji’s – 6. Gold Merits – 4. Kohli

Ginger Baker

Loved the run fresh from him, what I really liked was from an inside draw similar to what he gets again on the weekend, he actually began far better than what I have been used to and expect from him and he was able to utilise the gate to hold a spot, something he has always had an issue with being able to do in the past. He usually just flops out, takes a few strides to muster and before you know it he’s worse than midfield cluttered away in an awkward spot. This is another race littered with moderate opposition, he is a horse that always takes big improvement 1st up to 2nd up, think he’s come back to racing really well and won’t find a better opportunity to win one then he does here. One of the better bets of the day, was just hoping for a better price, $3.00 upwards and I’m happy getting involved.

Race 8 – 4:55PM IDYLLIC PRINCE STAKES (1300 METRES)

11. Staralign – 5. Nerodio – 2. Outrageous – 9. Resortman

Race 9 – 5:25PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

11. Regal Magic – 1. All Day Session – 8. Weaponson – 6. Brooklyn Pier

Regal Magic

Regal Magic comes through a really strong form race behind Phanta and Multinational which rated super. Just got run off her legs there but from a good draw she can park much closer here in a race nowhere near as deep. Lucy Warwick has ridden her 3 times for 2 wins, back in trip to the 1300m I actually think is a positive for her and think she goes very well in this lineup.

All Day Session

Also really liked the last start effort of All Day Session. If Brad Rawiller can find some room from 3 back the fence, I think he’s better ridden a bit colder, then he can be dangerous poking through late and although the form guide might say a drying track isn’t to his advantage, he has been terribly unlucky on a number of occasions on Good 4 tracks when he looked to be bolting. Funny placement, but that’s what the Ashley Maley stable pride themselves on.
