With the 2024 LPGA season coming to a close with Atthaya Thitikul of Ratchaburi, Thailand winning $4 million at the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida, the 2025 women’s golf landscape will be significantly different than it was this past year. Why? Well in addition to Lexi Thompson of Coral Springs, Florida retiring at age 29, are four more Americans who have decided it is time to retire as well. According to Greg Robertson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Tuesday, they are Brittany Lincicome of St. Petersburg, Florida at age 39, Angela Stanford of Fort Worth, Texas at age 46, Marina Alex of Wayne, New Jersey at age 34, and Ally Ewing of Tupelo, Mississippi at age 32.
Lincicome and Stanford are both major champions from the past. Lincicome won the 2009 and 2015 major at Rancho Mirage, California. In 2009 it was known as the Kraft Nabisco Championship and in 2015 it was known as the ANA Inspiration. Meanwhile, Stanford won the 2018 Evian Championship.
There is no doubt Lincicome had a significant impact in women’s golf. Nicknamed Bam Bam because she was able to hit tee shots at 270 yards on average, Lincicome went on to win eight times on the LPGA Tour. When she competed at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida earlier this month, Lincicome had her father as her caddie.
Stanford won seven times on the LPGA Tour, and won nine additional times at the NCAA level representing Texas Christian University. Known for her consistency, Stanford cracked the top 10 at a major 14 times.
Alex won the 2018 Cambia Portland Classic and the 2022 Palos Verdes Championship in California. Ewing won the first ever LPGA Drive On Championship in Bradenton, Florida in 2020, the 2021 Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play Championship in Las Vegas, and the 2022 Kroger Queen City Championship in Cincinnati.
